All of the vessels and objects that Tom von Kaenel makes are handcrafted one-offs. The stones all come from the surrounding marble quarries on the island.

Marble from Naxia is incredibly unique as it is the only marble in the world with a crystalline structure that shines in the sun.

“When I look at my sculptures, the term 'prehistoric' comes to mind. I like that word. It expresses not only the early time of man, but an early time in general. It seems to me that all these quiet, sometimes stele-like forms are in an earlier time, at the beginning of a time.”
